Milestone Technology is focusing on the clean and efficient utilization of complex refractory mineral resources. After more than ten years of scientific research, with green and low-carbon utilization of refractory hematite, limonite and siderite as the purpose, centering on efficient utilization of hydrogen energy, in view of the special features of refractory iron ore, we have innovatively put forward the theory of "Precise control mechanism of mineral phase transformation process", and proposed a new concept of "pre-oxidation - reduction after heat accumulation - reoxidation" multi-stage mineral phase transformation based on hydrogen energy for complex refractory iron ore. In the process of industrialization, efforts have been made to solve a series of technical difficulties such as reaction time regulation of wide grain size, reactor feeding and discharging sealing and gas locking, material pre-heating and cooling, low calorific value exhaust waste heat recovery and so on.

Brief Introduction

Since 2006, our team led by Professor Yuexin Han has independently developed and applied the “Hydrogen Mineral Phase Transformation (HMPT)” technology. In view of the endowment characteristics of the complex refractory iron ore, the team has innovatively put forward the theory of “combination of processing and smelting” which strengthens the sorting solution, and finally invented “Hydrogen Mineral Phase Transformation (HMPT)”. Under the premise, we have successfully developed complete sets of test and industrialization equipment for “Hydrogen Mineral Phase Transformation (HMPT)” technology. It is expected to revitalize more than 60 billion tons of "sluggish" iron ore resources all around the world.

Moreover, HMPT also meets environmental requirements such as the low-carbon and environmental-friendly. There is no solid waste generated in the whole process.Emissions meet national ultra-low emission standards.

Advantages

As early as 2016, HMPT was selected as one of the top ten technology highlights in the field of Iron and Steel Industry by The World Metal Herald, and was reviewed for "the international first new technology for efficient utilization of complex refractory iron ore".

At the same time, more than 20 media including Economic Daily and China Daily reported the project under the title of "Tackling the world-class problem on efficient utilization of iron ore".

Green Cycle. By using hydrogen as reducing gas and fuel, we can basically achieve zero carbon emissions in the whole process. At the same time, to maximize resource recycling, the blast furnace gas or coke oven gas discharged by the iron and steel plant can be used as the reduction gas and fuel; recycled water from municipal sewage plant can also meet the project's water needs.

Value-added and Carbon Reduction. For some iron ores with low iron grade, compared with traditional mineral processing technology, “HMPT” technology can increase iron concentrate grade by 5% to 10% and iron recovery by 10% to 30%. Data shows that in the process of iron-smelting, for every 1% increase in the grade of iron powder feeding into the furnace, the carbon dioxide emission can be reduced by 20kg. Therefore, “HMPT” technology can not only increase the economic value of mineral resources, but also reduce the carbon emission of downstream processes, and truly achieve the goal of carbon reduction.

Turning Stone into Gold. For some iron ore with fine disseminated particle size and low monomer dissociation, traditional beneficiation process cannot effectively be applied. Although iron grade is high, it can only be stored as stone. However, with the application of HMPT, we can turn stone into gold.

Turning Waste into Treasure. In view of the tailings discharged by some traditional dressing plant to the tailings area, the HMPT technology can be used to enrich the iron in the tailings, and high grade iron concentrate powder can still be obtained after separation, which not only increases the economic benefit, but also contributes to environmental protection and removes the hidden danger in the tailings area.

Full component utilization. In the traditional dressing process, the concentrate is used as the raw material of the iron-smelting plant, while the tailings is piled up in the tailings area. However, the tailings treated by HMPT technology can be used as raw materials for the production of cement, aerated brick, non-fired brick and other building materials, so as to truly realize full component clean utilization.

Achievement
Up to now, 37 China invention patents have been granted during the research and development of HMPT. Milestone Technology has completed the application research of more than 20 kinds of complex refractory iron ore resources all around the world, all of which have good technical indicators. Among them, Sanhe HMPT project with the annual processing capacity of 600,000 tons iron-bearing manganese ore was completed in November 2020 and put into operation in 2021. Hainan Mining project with the annual processing capacity of 2.3 million is under construction in Changjiang, Hainan Province. And now, we are carrying out preliminary research work for many enterprises all around the world.
